Picasolar, a University of Arkansas startup company that includes two GREEN Ph.D. students, won the $25,000 first place prize in the Arkansas Governor’s Cup business plan competition last Wednesday. The company was formed after Seth Shumate, who works with GREEN faculty researcher Hameed Naseem, discovered a patent-pending process to improve the efficiency of solar cells by as much a 15% and potentially save manufacturers millions of dollars per year.
